Gritty. Grungy. Wild. Interesting.
These are some of the words that best describe the works of Claude Corbier. A photographer by choice, his works capture the essence of the rock music scene from the earlier generation. This former artist and musician has been dabbling into several fields of press, reportage and laboratory. In his photography series called “Swinging Montepellier”, Claude followed two band groups in Spain where he was also working as a tour manager.
The artist/photographer used a method of applying paint on black and white photos mixed with assembly and collage. He called his style “retro-modern” as it deeply resonates the emergence of the Rock Era of 70s to early 90s that is artistically applied on contemporary subjects.
Why we dig this aesthetic:
- The art style is slowly coming back to the fold.
- We are a sucker of a pop of color mixed with predominantly desaturated character and atmosphere.
- It transcends the mood of each subject.
- It screams “rock” without uttering a word.
- Focuses on a single style
Corbier doesn’t limit himself to inspiration. He is fascinated with music, religious icons, architecture, faunas and the human body. He uses those subject to express his ingenuity through various mediums. We can’t wait for what incredible pieces of work this artist will showcase in the near future.
