‘Dune 2021’ is an epic science fiction film about Paul Atreides who will travel in the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the security of his family and their people. Along the journey, their squad faces conflicts from different forces and it’s now a battle of survival.
THE METICULOUS PROCESS
The film was shot on an Arri Alexa LF and Mini LF. These are large format resolution which filmmakers use to explore with combining styles of visual targeting the skin tones and HDR quality.
Many people are wondering about this strategy because after that process, it was transferred into a 35mm film, and then was scanned back to digital.
Since this film was based on a book, they want this process so bad that it happened to be the first when it comes to commercial films. The director, Denis Villenueve, wanted to achieve a timeless approach of film that’s why cinematographer, Greig Fraser, came up and achieve this process.
FROM DIGITAL TO FILM TO DIGITAL
The process isn’t that easy and maybe far away from that. To summarize, it was costly but results are totally worth it for Dune achieved the picturesque landscape it deserves.
For the record, there is only one film laboratory in this world who specializes in that process and that is CPC London.
This lab is an expert when it comes to producing 35mm motion picture film prints and uses rare recording units to make the raw data transform into a new 35mm print. The process can only take for about 4 hours.
Dune is starred by Timothee Chalamet, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya.
