Traveling and Art are two inseparable things that go together. When mixed, they make a good team that produces a magnificent look.
If there’s a person who came for the world of art, Cyrus Dan Canares will be the go-to inspo. Cyrus is a photographer, writer, craftsman, collector of vintage objects, and a traveler. He spent his early life as a photographer on cruise ships that allowed him to travel in certain part of the world including Alaska, Antarctica, Samoa, Fiji, and many other places.
Travelfund by Siriusdan
He is the man behind Travelfund by Siriusdan. In here, we can see a glimpse of a local range cushions, ottoman, and bags that are designed and painted by him. He mixed all the textiles, colors, and patterns to form a good design.
His love for traveling made him want to earn money just as so he can travel. The time when he began exploring the creative pursuits of painting and craft-making, that became the way for him to earn money and travel and TravelFund was born. Most of the proceeds from his brand go to his travels.
ARTSY
Cyrus is a pattern surface designer and he is very much fascinated with shapes, lines, and colors. His love for the craft allowed him to use designs from his works.
Most of the times, he get old furniture from Bangkal, Kamuning, Cubao X, or Makati Cinema Square, and make them over by changing their covers, embellishing them, and painting them, giving the pieces a brand-new character. His inpos include African Mad Cloth from Mali, Binacol weave from the Ilocos, T’nalak from Lake Sebu, and many more kinds of materials.
ART INSPO
Most of his art inspirations are from filmmakers. He based some accent chairs through the colors of the film that he loves and just add painted details on it. He was totally invested in doing furniture art because he believes that a home speaks about yourself, of how you view things and life in general.
Ingmar Bergman, Wong Kar-Wai, and Pedro Almodovar are his top art inspirations.
IN A NUTSHELL
Cyrus is known for having a diverse style in textiles mostly incorporating the trend in tribal, bohemian, and eclectic. But as for him, he calls it “earthly” for he always combines stuff from nature that is more Filipino and that is more him.
Another fun fact about him is that he is also a soap opera writer trained by Ricky Lee and Mel Mendoza Del Rosario and he has been greatly contributing in soap operas and teleseryes. He took a break because of his need to travel and pursue more art.
