March is where international women’s month is celebrated. In line with this, coincidence or not, Pixar will be releasing an animated film called ‘Turning Red’ and the whole creative process was the highlight in Pixar film history.
Pixar President Jim Morrison that the teaming up comes in naturally, very organic since women in the film industry are the real deal. Pixar COO and filmmaker Pete Docter added that this team was a team filled with visionaries, risk-takers, and smart thinkers and he even added that they all learn from them.
The story of ‘Turning Red’ revolves around the thirteen-year-old girl, Mei, who is ambitious, unafraid, and unapologetic. She is the definition of perfect as she hustles to be good in both academic-related things and is a very engaging type of person when it comes to dealing with friends and family. One day, Mei transformed into a strange creature and she was shocked about her appearance. This story tackles themes of children undergoing certain changes in their bodies and with their environment—it’s being able to accept change and that things are constantly changing, nothing is permanent. It is also a case of taking responsibility with your own emotions and how it can affect yourself together with the people around you.
This is a much-awaited film as the main characters were voiced out by Sandra Oh, Ava Morse, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Hyein Park.
The most exciting part includes the team where co-writer Julia Cho and Pixar producer, Lindsey Collins, who previously produced Wall-E and Finding Dory.
According to Cho, this is her dream project—women in the Asian and Asian-American teaming up to form a masterpiece. This is in line in celebration that they are very much capable in producing heartfelt films who will be a representation in society, to also dream as strong as a woman without overwhelming intimidation from anyone else. Also, this film will really show the reality of growing up in phases.
‘Turning Red’ is now making a noise in all social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit.
The film debuted at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles following a red carpet with Sandra Oh and singer song-writer, Billie Eilish, who is featured on the film’s soundtrack alongside brother and musical collaborator Finneas.
‘Turning Red’ will be available on Disney+ starting March 11 without a domestic theatrical release.
