You know it’s a trending topic when it’s a Robert Eggers film.
‘The Northman’ is a $90 million Viking revenge movie and it has been making a noise in all social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter since April 05.
Eggers is the writer-director behind absolutely amazing masterpieces ‘The Vvitch’ and ‘The Lighthouse’. What makes it trending is the first look of the movie – its stunning cinematography sets bar and a merger between Norse Mythology with a brutal reality of the Viking history.
‘The Northman’ is gaining its positive reviews and shocking popularity.
It’s a film starring Björk, Claes Bang, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård and more.
It was also greeted with the critical consensus agreeing that the film delivers on its epic scope, with great performances from the cast, and Skarsgård in particular.
It is based on the same Scandinavian folk tale that inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It’s about the Viking diaspora that takes place in 14th century Iceland. It is told from the perspective of young Amleth who witnesses his father (King Aurandvil) being brutally murdered by his uncle (Fjölnir). The Viking prince escapes his homeland and vows to seek revenge and justice for his deceased father.
No doubt that this film will make its own name as a box-office hit in the future like ‘Braveheart’ and ‘Gladiator. Robert Eggers continues to build his name as one of contemporary cinema’s finest auteurs—he is also known as one of those writer-directors who gives unsettling tones in films with a very unique style.
‘The Northman’ still has a challenge on its hands if it is to match its commercial expectations, we all know that but it was already one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.
