Elon Reeve Musk is an entrepreneur, investor, CEO and Chief Engineer of SpaceX and Tesla Inc.
Just recently, Twitter accepted Musk’s bid of $44 billion paving the way for the world’s richest man to take control of a global social media platform. According to him, he wants Twitter to adhere more closely to the principles of free speech.
As we all know, that many may have view Twitter as just a basic social media platform available, right? But it’s not just like that. Taking over a social media platform in billions of dollars deal is already creating its impact—judging by some reactions, feels like it could be something that will change the world of Internet.
What’s next on Twitter?
During the deal, Musk said that he hopes to make Twitter better by adding new features making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all human beings. He’s been looking forward to unlock some of Twitter’s potentials for the benefit of all.
Many disagrees because Twitter itself in that algorithm is in its absolute best and is doing okay. Tweaking things might change the narrative.
Other than that, people see this as Musk’s rich guy tactic to acquire all the benefits. He can use his power over Twitter and enjoy the leverage billionaires can only enjoy.
Changes and Benefits
According to CNN, the last time Twitter made significant cuts to its staff was in 2016, when the company eliminated about 9% of its employees, or 350 positions, with the sales and marketing teams experiencing the heaviest losses. In this time, there will no lay-offs. Twitter’s director of product and management, Edward Perez, said that, “Most of us believe deeply that Twitter is much more than a tech platform; we have a deep responsibility to society. I hope our new owner gets that.”
He said this statement because of the ongoing fears that the staffs are overcoming because of this huge change and announcement.
Hiring and Updates
Hiring plans are still in flux after Monday’s announcement. Twitter still had more than 650 open roles posted on their website across departments. One of the biggest questions that remains unanswered in the wake of the deal is who Musk will appoint as Twitter’s new CEO – Agrawal replaced co-founder Jack Dorsey a mere five months ago.
Agrawal said during Monday’s meeting that he would remain CEO until the deal closes but Musk could appoint a new leader after completing the deal.
Back to Normal Setting
Since Elon Musk’s employees on Tesla began to resume in the office setting, work-from-home arrangement here on Twitter is still debatable whether they’ll be now returning to office—but with Musk’s presence, they all knew it that they’re going back to the office setting.
It’s a new one with a new owner of course. Parag Agrawal, CEO of Twitter, opened the Twitter offices last March, he also said that employees can decide where and how they work, including being remote full-time.
