“I volunteer as tribute!”
For everyone who missed Katniss Everdeen and the world of Panem, this is now your chance to see them again on the big screens.
‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ is really happening. Fans of both Suzanne Collins books and movie are now hyperventilating out of happiness.
The Hunger Games trilogy is a young adult dystopian series that follows the life of Katniss Everdeen. The prequel is set 64 years before the original.
It started with a dystopia set in Panem, a country consisting of wealthy capitol and 13 districts in varying state of poverty. Every year, representative from every district are selected through a lottery type of raffle to participate on a battle called “Hunger Games”.
‘Catching Fire’ is the second installment of this trilogy. It begins six months after the so-called hunger games, where the rebellion begins.
‘Mockingjay’ is the third and final book for the trilogy. This is where Katniss’ district was destroyed and Jennifer Lawrence’s love interest, Josh Hutcherson, playing the role of Peeta Mellark—was brainwashed by their government. Katniss learned more about the rebellion and her place that will make the tables turn on the president.
Revealed at CinemaCon 2022, the prequel story will focus on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem.
“Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games, only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12”, the official description continues.
No casting has been revealed for the film, but we do know that Collins will write the film’s treatment and will serve as an executive producer. Oscar-winner Michael Arndt will adapt the screenplay.
The Hunger Games prequel film ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ will be released in theaters on November 17, 2023.
