Through The Mind Of A Creative: The XS Multimedia Experience

As the brutally creative agency, XS Multimedia offers internship programs for students who are in dire need to store, bring out, and showcase their potential and hidden capabilities.

We got you! There’s no way in this world we’re going to let those passion go.

When we speak of transparency through creativeness, we see a tool. We serve as an instrument—your actual playground to get hold of those dreams and turn your visions into reality. We make them possible. XS Multimedia, once and for all, is an avenue to unleash the beast that is inside you, bleeding with top-notch skills that are meant to be shown. We step in out in the light.

XS Multimedia interns are more than just interns.

When asked, “What was being an intern at XS like?”

John Laurente, Motion Designer and Illustrator intern, said that they were treated as junior employees. “We were given if not huge part of their responsibility, the actual full responsibility to handle certain projects once they get to know you and your capacity to have such high regard in your passion, not just to work, but to bring the agency to the next level.” Laurente said.

Our characteristics were honed and will always be part of the pack of wolves that we are.” He added.

Visual Artist and Illustrator intern, Angelique Co, mentioned that they weren’t treated like mere interns nor mere employees of the company but we were treated as students who have a lot of things to offer on the table too.

“XS would always make sure to include inputs from interns because in their perspective: Everyone has ideas, and so everyone should have the room to share it, and everyone should have the room to listen to it.” Co said.

That’s one hell of a ride because we rarely see companies who actually treat their interns, well not in the student way—but still making them feel the actual reality of what is it like stepping out into your zone, bringing something to offer in the banquet.

“What was your most unforgettable memory or project you had with XS Multimedia?”

Copy Writer intern, Delcy Reyes answered, “I would definitely not forget my XS Out of School project. We were tasked to create a program and collaterals to promote this for future XS interns.”

Like who knew they could also be part of a journey like that?

“It was a proud moment for us since it’s our first full-blown project. Reyes added.

It’s such an exciting moment—to be given a first full-blown project where one can easily understand what it means to handle an actual project basis. XS Multimedia will let you experience it firsthand. As the saying goes, “Experience is the best teacher.” It truly is.

Graphic Design intern, Xavier Tuazon, mentioned that his unforgettable project was the “Destination Christmas at the North”, a project for SM North EDSA’s Christmas Ads 2016.

“It was unforgettable because I did not expect that my artwork will be chosen.” Tuazon added.

While these two mentioned their experience handling projects were their absolute best, of course we can never go wrong with the feelings they felt that was surreal unforgettable.

Angelique Co said that the XS experience is like team building in a nutshell.

“The interns were divided into two groups and each group had their own mentors for each discipline: Strategy, art/design, post production, and content/copywriting. It was an unforgettable memory for me because it was where I felt that the line between the interns and employees weren’t as thick as when we first started out as interns. It was the project where it felt like a drill in the head, but it was where we, most importantly, had room to spend more time with our mentors as good friends rather than just mentors.” She answered.

Throughout the course, it’s a participation as a whole—skills aside, being an XS intern is discovering, discovering things inside you that you never thought existed. But aside from that, you will also come to learn values and aspects that are vital in your overall experience as a junior.

What is the most important trait and skill you have acquired while working with XS?”

Amieru Amores: “Perseverance in learning. When I became an intern in XS, I realized how outdated my video editing skills are. But I learned from my supervisors that you just have to keep on learning, making mistakes and learning from those mistakes to become a better video editor.”

John Laurente: “Aside from the technical stuff about using multiple software simultaneously to produce such exquisite content, it was actually all about learning how to be detail-oriented, visually aesthetic, and having a consistent workflow.”

Xavier Tuazon: Dito ako nahulma bilang isang artist. Dito ko nahanap yung art style ko and dito ko natutong maging flexible pag dating sa artworks. Pero ang pinakaproud akong natutunan dito ay ang pakikisalamuha sa iba’t ibang klase ng tao.”

Delcy Reyes: “Execution. To have a great output, you have to execute it properly and nitpick even the smallest detail.”

Angelique Co: “XS values energy.  I was able to understand the essence of energy when we tell stories through our craft.”

It was a rollercoaster ride, thinking we had an impact like that in the minds of creatives. In the end, it became a two-way street where their learning is also an impact not just to them but to all of us inside XS. It will never go away, the skills. The values and attitudes are there and they serve as a living proof too.

Lastly, we asked them about their own interpretation and their own mark of what it means to be brutally creative.

Video Creator, Amieru Amores, said “it means seeing a different perspective on an idea.”

“Being brutally creative means you have to execute your concepts and ideas so well it gives a big impact to the audience.”  – Delcy Reyes (Copywriter)

“Being brutally creative for me is to leave no ideas behind. Crazy and unconventional ideas can disrupt the comfortable, so what’s stopping us to be brutally creative? Show no mercy. – Angelique Co (Visual Artist and Illustrator)

Being brutally creative is going beyond what you are expected to do. It’s like doing what people didn’t expect you to do. Pero minsan talaga parang wala siyang explanation, like ‘pag nakita mo yung artwork, mapapasabi ka nalang na that’s “Brutally Creative”. – Xavier Tuazon (Graphic Designer)

Brutally Creative may mean differently to many people, but for me personally these are certain excellent skill sets that makes you stand out of the competition, which you can never find anywhere else rather than within the walls of the XS Group or from its people that really grew there. – John Laurente (Motion Designer and Illustrator)
