After a long way, GMA Network’s most anticipated show ‘Running Man Philippines’ is officially kicking off.
The project is the first co-production of GMA Network and South Korea’s SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System).
We all know how popular ‘Running Man’ is right? It’s a South Korean variety show that is filled with a genre of variety shows in an urban environment.
First aired on July 2010, it become popular in other parts of Asia, and has gained online popularity among Hallyu fans, having been fan subbed into various languages, such as English, Persian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Burmese, Arabic, Russian, and Turkish.
One hurrah! The Philippine adaptation is here. For its pilot episode, Running Man Philippines’ cast members fly to Seoul, South Korea for their first mission. As they arrive at the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, the runners need to find characters written in the Korean alphabet hidden all around the location and spell out their names in order to earn their name tags, from there they move on to engage in a series of wacky games and exciting races.
The show marks the first time that SBS — one of South Korea’s biggest networks — collaborated with a Philippine TV network. It can be remembered that back in February 2020, GMA Entertainment Group inked a co-production deal with SBS Korea for the local version of the game show.
One of the key ingredients in Running Man’s popularity is the natural chemistry of its cast members. The missions are designed to be unpredictable, engaging and hilarious — all of which wouldn’t be possible if the cast couldn’t blend well.
Set to showcase their skills and strengths in various races are the cast members led by Glaiza de Castro, Ruru Madrid, Kokoy de Santos, Lexi Gonzales, Angel Guardian, Buboy Villar and Mikael Daez. What a powerful combination.
