‘Gucci Twinsburg’ is setting up the standard for all multiverses. Italian luxury brand Gucci featured 68 pairs of identical pairs in the recent Milan Fashion Week.
The show was held for Alessandro Michele’s Spring-Summer 2022-23 collection. Creative director Alessandro Michele paid homage to twins and their bond for the show, called “Gucci Twinsburg” – a nod to the Ohio town that holds a yearly festival for twins.
Gucci posted several videos and pictures from the fashion show on their social media sites. The presentation began with single models walking down the catwalk, before a wall was lifted to show their brothers or sisters on the other side in the exact same outfits. The siblings held hands as they walked together in a striking finale.
The number of outfits in the show included symbols and icons, bold tailoring interpretations, historical pressings, and a tribute to many civilizations whose components enriched and enhanced his narrative. One of the outfits from his collection showed a furry creature named Gizmo from ’80s cinema lore hand-painted on a dress.
According to Michele, twin ship is a topos that transcends biology showing us the sense of co-belonging and sisterhood that should guide our trip through this planet.
Michele’s designs began with a black blazer jacket teamed with suspender-like trouser legs, followed by a bright red belted dress.
Biker jackets were paired with skirts bearing cutouts, shimmering silver jackets were cropped and had large shoulders, while prints on colorful dresses depicted spanners and bolts.
Models also wore floor-length trench coats, floral kimono-inspired designs, and ruffled silk dresses, giving us an impression of an eclectic mix of looks.
In an interview, Michele said that “Twinsburg plays this game, producing a tension in the relationship between original and copy. As if by magic, clothes duplicate. They seem to lose their status of singularity. The effect is alienating and ambiguous. Almost a rift in the idea of identity, and then, the revelation: the same clothes emanate different qualities on seemingly identical bodies.” He added.
