Uhm, wait. But what is going on with this new ‘M3GAN’ trailer?
The trailer for ‘M3GAN’ is out and it’s about a killer doll created by James Wan. The sci-fi horror film tells the story about a brilliant robotics engineer at a toy company named Gemma, who uses artificial intelligence to build a life-like doll designed to be a child’s best friend. After Gemma unexpectedly gains custody of her orphaned niece, Cady, she enlists the M3GAN prototype to help with the parenting which, to little surprise, ends up going horribly wrong.
It’s horrifying and at the same time hilarious because Megan likes to show off her killer floppy-limbed dance moves, run around on all fours and utter foreboding phrases like “recalibrating response model.”
And thanks to the trailer, it features a Taylor Swift soundtrack.
M3GAN is co-produced by Aquaman’s James Wan and Blumhouse Productions, the studio behind Jordan Peele’s Get Out and the supernatural horror franchise Paranormal Activity.
Produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN is directed by award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant, The Nun 2) based on a story by Akela Cooper and James Wan.
The film also stars Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy Bebop), Lori Dungey, (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, extended edition) and Stephane Garneau-Monten (Straight Forward).
It’s scheduled for release on January 13 of 2023, the scariest time of the year.
