‘Elementa’l is an all-new, original feature film directed by Peter Sohn, who previously helmed the movie The Good Dinosaur for the studio. He also worked in the animation department for movies like Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Incredibles 2.
The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted, and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade, challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. According to Peter Sohn, the idea of the film came from his parents. As immigrants to the US from Korea in the ’70s, they had no family but they managed to create a life in New York.
“And just like them, many people have left their people and families to a new land, with hopes and dreams, all mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages and neighborhoods.”
The teaser follows Ember as she boards a subway train filled with the city’s diverse residents going about their daily lives. It’s here that she first meets Wade as he tries to help her after she drops her headphones. It’s a moment that sets up everything.
A CRINGEY DESIGN?
Not everyone seems to be sold on Pixar’s latest project, however; many were quick to air their grievances about the trailer’s character design in lieu of having anything better to do.
Oof wade’s design is making cringe so bad #pixar #elemental https://t.co/VEsm2tZ14s

Idky but none of the designs resonate with me. Tbf, it's a really hard task making unique elemental designs since it's a concept that's been used a lot. But still, I've seen done better and as others have said, it feels like a rehash of Inside Out. https://t.co/lkFjbqWoTU

Apart from these comments about Disney and Pixar having cringey designs over this upcoming animated film, others loved it to the core.
Pixar being Pixar, Elemental will likely answer a few questions, hand-wave away most of the deeper world-building bits with gags that kill, and leave everything else to the imagination.
Elemental will hit the theaters on June 16, 2023.
