Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ arrived with some pretty numbers impressive enough to top some other high-grossing tv series in the Netflix history.
According to Netflix’s data, figures show over 50 million households have seen the series since its premiere. In a tweet from the streaming service, Netflix lauds Wednesday for surpassing Stranger Things—which previously was the record holder for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language TV series on Netflix.
‘Wednesday’ adapted its character well from the great Addams family. It centers around the story and life of the outcasts: within the society, with unusual and different ones, and the ones who belong with spooky families. The series takes place on their school, Nevermore, where most outcasts belong. Tim Burton’s great work of art was shown as they also consistently show some of best visuals consisting of references from the Horror Master himself, Edgar Allan Poe—Nevermore’s most infamous alumni.
What an interesting thought knowing that ‘Wednesday’ surpasses Stranger Things as the most watched TV series in its record-breaking debut with 341.23M hours viewed.
‘Wednesday’ now holds the record for the most hours viewed in a week for any English-language TV series on Netflix. Impressively, that beats Stranger Things 4, which previously held the title. At its peak, the first seven episodes of Stranger Things 4 notched 335M hours viewed in their first full week on the service (and second week in the Top 10).
‘Wednesday’ has made its way into the Top 10 in all 93 countries that Netflix tracks, and it sits at No. 1 in 83 of them — a record that is also shared with Stranger Things 4.
The series also stars Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, and Riki Lindhome. Christina Ricci also appears in the series, as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Fred Arimisen, and Isaac Ordonez.
Wednesday is directed and executive produced by Tim Burton, with creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar.
