We are all aware that MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival) has always been a part of the Filipino household during Christmas season and people are very excited, lining up to see their current favorites. This annual film festival started way back 1975 and aims to promote and help the Philippine movie industry.
This year’s MMFF will begin on Christmas Day and will run on the first week of January.
Here are the 8 official entries and we know you’re all excited to hear about:
DELETER
‘Deleter’ follows the story of Nadine Lustre as Lyra, who works as an online content moderator who removes violent videos online. She faces trauma from watching disturbing footages in her job, but she hides how she feels from her colleagues.
MAMASAPANO: NOW IT CAN BE TOLD
‘Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told’ is based on the true story of the bloody police operation in 2015 known as the “Oplan Exodus,” which claimed the lives of 44 Special Action Forces (SAF 44) officers in Mamasapano, Maguindanao. This film is starred with Edu Manzano, JC De Vera, and Aljur Abrenica.
MY TEACHER
Starring Toni Gonzaga and Joey De Leon, ‘My Teacher’ will be a heartwarming and feel-good movie giving tribute to teachers, based on the movie’s teasers.
LABYU WITH AN ACCENT
‘Labyu with an Accent’ revolves around the story of Gabo and Trisha whose backgrounds are entirely different from each another. Trisha has spent years living and working abroad all that time that Gabo has been struggling to make ends meet in the Philippines.
FAMILY MATTERS
This is the story of Francisco, an ageing head of family who got hit by a stroke and being taken care of by his wife, Eleanor, and their children Kiko (Nonie Buencamino), Fortune (Mylene Dizon), Ellen (Nikki Valdez), and Enrico (JC Santos). Ellen flies for the United States in a bid to find a romantic partner, leaving the three other siblings to take care of their parents.
MY FATHER, MYSELF
‘My Father, Myself’ tells the story of a young boy Matthew, who was adopted into a family. Matthew falls in love with his foster father while his stepsister Mika falls in love with him.
NANAHIMIK ANG GABI
‘Nanahimik ang Gabi’ tells the story of a sugar baby of a corrupt police chief and how their weekend getaways are interrupted by an intruder. Directed by Shugo Praico under Rein Entertainment, the film is starred by Ian Veneracion, Heaven Peralejo, and Mon Confiado.
PARTNERS IN CRIME
‘Partners in Crime’ follows the story of an ex-couple who are brought together when both get involved in a crime.
It’s an upcoming Philippine action-adventure comedy film starring Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi. The film is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and is under the production of Star Cinema and Viva Films.
