The (mis)adventures of the Forger family are set to continue, as the highly-popular anime series Spy x Family is getting a second season and a theatrical film in 2023.
Its unique stylings have already made the show one of 2022’s breakout anime hits, but we were all left wanting more when season one’s first half ended at the end of June.
SPY x FAMILY’s second half is set to have 13 episodes, bringing the total to 25. Depending on the exact start date, 13 weeks of SPY x FAMILY episodes would put the two-part finale at the end of December.
It’s worth remembering that the original manga is still ongoing, and SPY x FAMILY part one only covered three of the currently-available nine volumes. If the second half covers a similar amount of plot then there’s no reason to expect the Forgers will be saying a permanent goodbye at the end of part two as there’ll be plenty of stories left to tell. That’s the most exciting part.
Splitting it into two parts is appropriate, SPY x FAMILY is a co-production between two major anime studios: WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks. According to animation producer Kazuki Yamanaka, it’s a collaboration that’ll continue into the next season, too.
SPY x FAMILY part two will feature much of the same impressive voice cast as the first, with talented English and Japanese actors bringing this host of loveable actors to life. The show will also continue to be a co-production between WIT Studios and CloverWorks.
Details about both the second season and film were scarce, but manga creator Tatsuya Endo will reportedly create the original story for the movie.
Spy x Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Endou Tatsuya. The story follows Loid Forger, a spy who has to build a family for his mission. He, however, is unaware that his adopted daughter, Anya Forger, is a telepath and the woman he married, Yor Forger, is a skilled assassin.
An exact release date for both the anime’s second season and the feature film have yet to be announced.
