Fresh off from the success of Stranger things, creators the Duffer Brothers have officially announced the launch of their new Upside Down Pictures production company, which will create a series of varying projects for the prominent Netflix streaming service.
A live-action series adaptation of the notable anime Death Note will emerge from the brand-new company. The series will follow a sharp teenager who discovers a strange black notebook that gives him power over life and death.
Netflix, however, is no stranger to the popular Japanese manga and anime, having developed a live-action Death Note film in 2017 which starred Nat Wolff, LaKeith Stanfield, and Willem Dafoe.
Death Note is a Japanese manga series written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The manga series ran from 2003 to 2006. It was then adapted into an anime series by Madhouse in 2006 and ran until 2007 with a series total of 37 episodes.
Netflix tried its hand at making a live-action Death Note film, but it wasn’t received well by critics or viewers.
Netflix did not reveal any plot details for the upcoming live-action series adaptation, but they did announce that it’ll be an “entirely new take.” How exciting is that?
We’re not really surprised that the Duffer Brothers have decided to create their own production company since they’ve seen a lot of success with Stranger Things over the years. Such a topnotch show from the topnotch creators.
Aside from the Death Note live-action adaptation, Upside Down Pictures will be adapting Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman into a new original series, an undisclosed original series and a Stranger Things stage play and spinoff series.
