Discord is an instant messaging and a digital platform to communicate with voice calls, video calls, and other communication related in its community called “servers”.
Usually, people knew Discord as a platform that is used by gamers and people who liked playing with their friends.
This is also another way to connect with friends who aren’t playing with you real-time and also another way to connect to other gamers who wants to play in real time.
A few years back, Discord became the center of the gaming universe.
Now with its millions of users and servers worldwide, it became a universal platform wherein you can join in different communities/servers and also meet people from the same field. There are also private servers made for friends and also public communities or channels where you get to meet people randomly.
Since the pandemic up to this date, Discord has been very popular as an avenue for talking and catching up with friends. 30 % or more from the servers and the population are non-gaming servers.
Everyone’s life was stuck on the internet—online classes, more zoom calls for work, video conferences, and everything on the screen; Discord stepped up on this level that people can catch up and think of non-academic or non-work related when it comes to this platform.
The most common misconception about Discord is that this is “A place for gamers”, where in fact, there are random strangers you can chill with when you need background distractions, book club buddies, sneakerheads, or a server for film addicts.
Last June 2020, Discord rebranded with its new slogan, “Your place to talk” but it wasn’t so strong so they changed it to “Imagine a place”, shifting focus from video gaming to multi-purpose communication.
