BLACKPINK’S Lisa had quite the evening at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, where she made history a number of times — including winning the Best K-Pop Video award.
The MTV Video Music Awards (also known as VMAs) is an award show presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in the music video medium.
Last Sunday, K-pop girl group BLACKPINK made their American awards show debut performance while also premiering their new single “Pink Venom” – a pre-release single from their upcoming album Born Pink.
Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa performed a set of dance routines before ending their performance with a display of smoke on the stage at New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
Besides BLACKPINK, other performers at the VMAs 2022 included Eminem, J Balvin, Nicki Minaj, Måneskin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marshmello, Bad Bunny, and Snoop Dogg.
As we all know, aside from BLACKPINK being the trending K-pop girl group, they were also hailed as the girl group with the biggest number of fans, the girls also thrive in their individual careers shining with their independent successes.
One of the awards in the VMA was for Best Metaverse Performance for Blackpink The Virtual – PUBG, a special in-game concert featuring the song “Ready For Love” the group did for the acclaimed battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
The second was an individual award, Best K-pop, for Lisa with her debut solo single “Lalisa.” With this, she became the first solo female K-pop star and Korean soloist to both score a nomination and win a VMA.
Lisa gave a big shout-out to the all BLINKS (BLACKPINK’S fandom) calling them the “most important” people in her life. Blinks quickly made “Lalisa Takes Over VMAs” and “#LisaHitsMTVStage” trend on Twitter just minutes after her big win and history-making evening. This is a one proud moment for Lisa. She is indeed, the best girl.
And other than Lisa’s solo success and history, the group continues to shine. BLACKPINK, which has been nominated multiple times at VMAs won their first ever VMA in 2020 in the category Song of the Summer for “How You Like That.” It was the first time a K-pop girl group won a VMA.
