Apple debuted the first official trailer for My Mind & Me documentary—sharing an in-depth look at the aspects of Selena’s personal life amid her years-long health struggles.
The trailer was kind of in line the moment it was released on Monday—in celebration of World Mental Health.
In the trailer, the former Disney star says:
Just be who you are. No cares about what you’re doing. It’s about who I am, being okay with where I am. I am grateful to be alive. Every breath, a breakthrough. In honor of #WorldMentalHealthDay I wanted to share the trailer for my documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.
As the synopsis for the film reads, “After years in the limelight, Selena Gomez achieves unimaginable stardom. But just as she reaches a new peak, an unexpected turn pulls her into darkness. This uniquely raw and intimate documentary spans her six-year journey into a new light.”
The trailer is out and we have mixed emotions rolling into one. The new trailer shows Selena struggling with fame, lupus, mental illness, and a persistent feeling of not being good enough. The main line being never truly having a choice about being in the spotlight, Gomez wants to use it to help others.
She has previously discussed her mental health. She opened up about spending time in a mental-health facility in 2016 but never in so much detail. Gomez checked into a clinic again in 2018, and in 2020—it revealed her bipolar diagnosis.
Selena added:
Let me make a promise: I am going to stop living like this. How do I learn how to breathe my own breath again?
Cameras followed Gomez for six years documenting her “journey into a new light,” according to a press release. For those fans quickly trying to do the math, it appears the timing would coincide with her past high-profile romances with Justin Bieber and The Weeknd. Viewers will need to watch the film and see what, if anything, she has to say about that time in her life as they aren’t mentioned the trailer.
The film is directed by Alex Keshishian, the director for the critically-acclaimed 1991 music documentary, Madonna: Truth or Dare.
Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me debuts Friday, Nov. 4 on Apple TV+.
