August Thrills: Events You Need to Check Out

August is full of surprises when it comes to concerts, music festivals, and spontaneous ensemble theater or improv. We Filipinos have our own kind and branding when it comes to attending events here in the Philippines—prepared, energetic, and full of energy. Whether it’s local artists or international ones, our love for music and the arts is clear. This August, get ready to feel the vibe in both the music scene and the theater arts with the upcoming events below:

AGOSTO MO YAN! You Choose! We Play! (An Improv Experience With SPIT) 

August 10, 2023 – SM Skydome, Quezon City

August 17, 2023 – St. Francis Theater Lourdes School of Mandaluyong 

Silly People’s Improv Theater (SPIT) Manila is an improv group bringing quality comedy to their audience since 2022. The group recently made waves on social media (Thanks, TikTok!)  

But what’s interesting is that, viewers are all over their own worlds witnessing first-hand theaters 

show/s even without the background, and a rehearsal before the performance itself. 

NCT DREAM ‘THE DREAM’ WORLD TOUR (August 10-11)

K-pop group NCT DREAM are making their way back to Manila for a two-day show this August 10 and 11. The K-pop group NCT DREAM performed in Manila last April for THE DREAM SHOW 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. They recently had a comeback on July 17, 2023, with their 3rd album “ISTJ,” which includes the songs “ISTJ,” “Broken Melodies,” and “Yogurt Shake.”

FOLLOW AGAIN in Cinemas (August 21)

SEVENTEEN right here! Filo carats were once again thrilled when SM Cinema announced that it will hold limited screening of the Seventeen Tour: ‘Follow’ Again to Cinemas this August 21 in cinemas nationwide. 

TORI KELLY: PURPLE SKIES ASIA TOUR (August 23)

Two-time Grammy winner Tori Kelly is coming to Manila in August for her “Purple Skies” world tour. The singer-songwriter will perform at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao, Quezon City. Ticket prices are: P1,750 for Balcony 2, P2,500 for Balcony 1, P4,350 for Loge, P4,600 for Floor B standing, and P5,000 for Floor A standing. 

THE BOYZ Zenaration II (August 25)

K-pop boyband THE BOYZ have announced their 2024 ‘Zeneration II’ world tour, with concerts in Asia, the US, Europe, and more. The group went to Manila for a fan meet in 2019, then had a concert there in July 2023 for their “The Zeneration” world tour.

Besides Manila, The Boyz will also perform in Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok, Jakarta, Macau, Kuala Lumpur, and Osaka.

SECONDHAND SERENADE  (August 30) 

Due to an overwhelming response and requests, Concert promoter Pulp Live World announced that Secondhand Serenade is making their return to Manila for the ‘SECONDHAND SERENADE ASIA TOUR 2024’ that is scheduled this August 30, 2024. Ticket prices range from P2,500 for Balcony seats to P10,000 for VIP meet-and-greet tickets. 

DECEMBER AVENUE (August 30)

For their 15th anniversary, local pop band December Avenue will be holding their concert at the Mall of Asia arena on August 30. Initially, their concert was set to happen, earlier this February but the OPM band postponed it. Tickets are priced from PHP 4,100 (SVIP), PHP 3590 (VIP), PHP 2,690 (Lower Box A), PHP 1,990 (Lower Box B), PHP 1,350 (Upper Box), and PHP 600 for General Admission. 

MADZ FESTIVAL (August 31)

Madz Festival is an event curated by Filipina-American artist Madz Johnson as celebration of musical excellence, featuring both renowned and emerging talents. Featuring G22, PLUUS, YGIG, Modern Day Dream, and many other Filipino talents, the show will be held at Rizal Memorial Coliseum this August 31. 

DOH KYUNG SOO (August 31)

Doh Kyung Soo, better known as D.O. of EXO, is bringing his “Bloom” Asia fan concert tour on Aug. 31 at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Fans will get special perks based on their ticket type. VIP Seated ticketholders can win a signed Polaroid in a lucky draw. They’ll also receive a VIP ID and lanyard, a signed poster (randomly selected), an exclusive photocard, and a send-off session. 

Tickets cost P4,000 for Upper Box Regular, P5,500 for Upper Box Premium, P9,000 for Lower Box Regular, P11,000 for Lower Box Premium, and P13,000 for VIP Seated.
