This Japanese Animated Film Shows Realistic Approach In Landscapes

This is about Makoto Shinkai’s 5 Centimeters per second.  No doubt Shinkai is one of the most impactful filmmakers and Japanese animators of his time.

His animated film ‘5 Centimeters per second’ tells a story about Takaki Tono and his relationship with Akari Shinohara. It’s a story about how they struggle between love and distance.

This film is divided into three segments: ‘Cherry Blossoms’, ‘Cosmonaut’, and ‘5 Centimeters per Second’ –they speak about arrival and departure.

This animated film captivated the hearts of its viewers due to its style and somewhat slow pacing.

Trains, tracks, and railroad crossings represent distance and separation, which is why they crop up so often in Shinkai’s films.

Shinkai also uses heavy snowfall that causes constant delays, keeping them from meeting each other until hours after the intended meeting time.

Makoto Shinkai’s 5 Centimeters per Second was inspired by real world locations in and around the Tokyo region leaving it with more concrete and impressive details. Most people who are enthusiasts in Japanese animated films will know that this is his forte.

He’s very keen in the color palettes that he uses. Shinkai specifically wants to convey season, weather, and time to ensure consistency.
