We Asked The XSM Team About The Last Film Or TV Show They Watched And Binge-Watched, And Here’s A List

Creatives are really multitaskers. One of the most enjoyable things to do when you have free time is binge-watch things from your watchlist. We are a bunch of movie junkies, and like it or not, it’s not very difficult to squeeze in a little bit of time just to satisfy your film needs once in a while.

As a Graphic Artist working from time to time with all the clients’ needs, Nathan Musngi really enjoyed Good Omens over the weekend to define what a perfect chill is. The miniseries follows the comedic and fantastical stories of an angel named Aziraphale, portrayed by Michael Sheen, and a demon named Crowley, played by David Tennant. These two supernatural beings have developed an unlikely friendship over centuries of observing and influencing humanity. However, their comfortable lives on Earth are disrupted when they discover that the apocalypse is imminent and they must prevent it.

Interesting, isn’t it? “Good Omens” blends elements of fantasy, comedy, and satire with its unique blend of British wit and offbeat humor. The series received positive reviews for its faithful adaptation of the source material, the chemistry between the lead actors, and its visually stunning production design.

“I enjoyed Good Omens for its comedic take on biblical ideologies. Like how angels and demons are hypocrites, and that being human means being good and bad is a natural thing.”

Nathan loves the concept of life being weighed between good and evil. According to him, It’s intriguing how we are taught that you can’t be both good and evil at the same time. Point taken!

As a geek who loves the arts and drawing, we can tell that he’s really a sci-fi guy. He’s looking forward to watching The Pirates of the Caribbean (all five movies), Nimona (an animated movie), and the Guardians of the Galaxy’s third and last installation.

Who else is interested in everything Korean? Angella Joves has you covered.

Writing and reading can be her unlimited powers when it comes to work, as can binge-watching Korean dramas on a regular basis. Right now, she’s binge-watching three Korean dramas (with one on-going), namely: Celebrity, See You In My 19th Life, and Agency. She really has a thing for everything fun and aegyo, and these dramas prove that they belong in that category.

Celebrity follows Seo A-ri (Park Gyu-young), a former rich girl who is now a door-to-door saleswoman selling cheap cosmetics. She’s perfectly content with her humble offline life until a chance reunion with high school friend Oh Min-hye (Jun Hyo-seong), now a famous influencer, changes the trajectory of her life.

See You In My 19th Life tells the story of Ban Ji Eum, who has an extraordinary ability: she can remember the memories of all her past lives. Repeating her reincarnation for nearly a thousand years, Ban Ji Eum has been living her life diligently. After her previous life is cut short by a tragic accident, she sets out to reconnect with the people of her past life.

While Agency follows the career of Go A-In (Lee Bo-Young) as she works from the bottom to the highest position in an advertising agency, Go A-In comes from a poor family background, and she didn’t graduate from a prestigious university, but she has a strong desire for success, which is why she decided to work for an advertising agency.

Just balance if I were to weigh Angella’s choices of binge-watch materials. She was just always looking forward to all the feel-good dramas and somehow connecting with them once in a while.

For Danniel Autea, you can never go wrong with films in mind-blowing genres. As a lover of words, Dann enjoys suspense, thrillers, and gore, as these genres can literally keep him on the edge of his seat. Growing up, he was exposed to various film genres and concepts and learned how to appreciate them one by one. That’s another thing: appreciation. People tend to love films based on their genres out of appreciation.

He recently binged on M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Old’ with her sister

“Kudos with the concept of the film of expanding and giving life to an unknown beach, but I think that the story could’ve been told in a more peculiar way. Also, I believe that the actors didn’t deliver their best.”

When asked what his go-to genre is in films and TV shows, he surprised us with a fun fact.Fun Fact: Dann’s a total sucker for local cinema, which is why her go-to genres include tearjerker family drama, camp, and rom-com movies.

Introducing one of the best TV shows of all time, Grey’s Anatomy, is Morts’ recent binge. When you think of Grey’s Anatomy, did you also think about the hottest doctors to ever exist in this show? #TeamKarev

Grey’s Anatomy is a medical and romantic drama centered around Meredith Grey, an aspiring surgeon and daughter of one of the best surgeons, Dr. Ellis Grey. Throughout the series, Meredith goes through professional and personal challenges along with fellow surgeons at Seattle Grace Hospital.

To be honest, she’s right—this show is the whole rollercoaster, which is why it stays so popular even among Gen Zs. Morts works as a Web Developer and is very fascinated with the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S., which is why she’s looking forward to watching the entire show over again. Crazy, right? But fun!

She usually looks for themes revolving around friendship and romance because Morty likes things that have a light mood. She has a thing for sitcoms, which reflects the person that she is—very bubbly, full of life, and a ball of happiness.

Moving forward with XSM’s project managers, Michael Dela Cruz’s recent watch is Nocebo. I totally vouch for this because it is so good, like literally awesome in all aspects. Nocebo tells the story of a fashion designer who suffers from a mysterious illness that puzzles her doctors and frustrates her husband until help arrives in the form of a Filipino caregiver who uses traditional folk healing to reveal a horrifying truth.

As an adventurer and good critic, Michael’s homecourt is to always see the details in everything, especially in different forms of art. He was into Nocebo, which, despite its lowkeyness, made its way onto him. Michael was in absolute pain upon realizing all the twists and turns of this film; he said that the experience he got while watching it was a scorching pain.

“Mahapdi, pati masakit tanggapin na kahit anong pilit nating umangat sa buhay, meron at meron paring maiiwan sa laylayan kasi hindi pare-pareho ang oportunidad na meron. Nakakalungkot, kasi kahit malaya and standing alone na ang Pilipinas hindi parin maitatanggi na hawak parin tayo ng malalaking bansa lalo na when it comes to workforce.”

And that’s a slap in the face of reality. Michael likes movies with political and satirical themes, but for now, he’s looking forward to watching Elemental and Barbie.

Project Manager Ranz Damian usually goes to the theater when he has the time. So, when The Flash movie came to the big screen, he immediately went because he was really interested in how the film would carry on with the DCEU, along with the many cameos. Now that’s a challenge, I guess! *laughs in DCEU*

As someone who’s into Muay Thai, Ranz is very passionate about this kind of film. To be honest, he’s also into the likes of Vikings and Game of Thrones.

“I’ve been into superhero action films since I was a kid. My Dad and I would go and watch every new Marvel or DC film that would come out. The fight scenes also help in making the films more entertaining and enjoyable.”

Ranz felt the most joy while watching The Flash, despite the very bad reviews concerning its CGI. He also felt disheartened when a lot of the cameos he was expecting were not included in the final cut. I mean, come on, DC. Stop feeding us things that aren’t meant to happen.

His go-to genres are comedy and action. Next on his list are Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, and Vikings: Valhalla Season 3!

Associate Art Director Lynnloiz Distrajo has really liked feel-good and light-hearted movies ever since she was a kid. Surprisingly, there’s another Korean drama fan over here. Lynnloiz’s recent watch is Dr. Romantic Season 3. This TV show revolves around a small and humble hospital called Doldam. What makes this interesting is the main character’s attitude: Kim Sabu, a genius doctor in that hospital.

I can’t tell people enough about this show because it was threaded beautifully and somehow unexpected. Each character breathes on their own with their own storylines, and that’s what makes it so amazing.

This is a medical drama. According to Lynnloiz, the top reason why she loved this show is because it shows how passionate the people are in Doldam towards saving the lives of those in need. Other reasons include how people overcome their traumas and personal fears.

“I like the story, characters, lessons, how well they executed the surgery scenes and when they need to decide and act fast or else the patient might lose their life. I love this show too because I watch this together with my Papa (he loves this show because of the medical relevance to his profession). I’m not a medical expert but I’m amazed of how realistic it feels when they perform surgeries and how they act as doctors and medical staffs. Also, I feel that they are more than just co-workers, they are a family. On a side note: I’m astonished with the medical terms.”

I cannot agree more. Period.

In this show, all the themes she looks for in a film resonate every season: Family, Survival, Heroism, Love, Friendship, Teamwork, Good vs. Evil, humanity, and Technology. Wow, this is knowledge, ftw!

Lynnloiz’s next items on her watchlist include one of the new Netflix shows, King The Land, and even more medical dramas like Doctor Cha and Hospital Playlist.

Alfonso Santamaria, XSM’s Digital Marketing Strategist, recently watched Love, Death, and Robots on Netflix. This show is an adult animated anthology TV series that explores diverse genres, particularly comedy, horror, science fiction, and fantasy. Each episode is connected to one or more of the three titular concepts.

According to Al, one of his friends suggested he watch it, and he totally liked it. Like, who can never like this show? From theme to cinematography to editing, it was crazy as hell. Love, Death, and Robots is a thought-proving show, said Al. He usually watches shows depending on his mood, but he likes shows that will mess up your mind.

Fun fact: He’s willing to watch ANY genre except horror. #Sheesh!

Going on to the last but not the least, Austin Reyes.

Austin is XSM’s multimedia editor and enjoys games and spectacular movies at the same damn time. For the record, his recent watch is Peaky Blinders. (A great show, by the way!)

Peaky Blinders is a crime drama centered on a family of mixed Irish Traveller and Romani origins based in Birmingham, England, starting in 1919, several months after the end of the First World War. It centers on the Peaky Blinders street gang and their ambitious, cunning crime boss, Tommy Shelby. Edgy and rock, this show was a superb watch, making the female characters our ultimate biases for their badassery.

Austin chose this show as something very close to his heart because of its genre—brotherhood. Having a very smart protagonist is a plus! He hasn’t finished it yet, but so far he’s loving it. The level of respect for Thomas Shelby is what he aspires to achieve.

As someone who has an eye for direction, Austin has no particular theme in mind when asked what themes he is looking for in a film. He mentioned ‘anything’, anything that can keep his mind going and something that’s not so predictable.

Smart answer indeed, because who likes a bad character anyway?
