True-Crime Documentaries On Netflix You Should See Before Anything Else

To all thriller and true-crime addicts, this is your jam.

People have that era where you spend most of your time lurking on documentaries that are horrible and was based on real events. You stay up late until 4 in the morning trying to decipher what really happened. Is that even real? How is that even possible? How did they resolve it?

Netflix got you right there.

The truth is the best place to start. So here is a list of some of the documentaries you need to see asap if you want a thrilling sensation of crime that speaks true to itself:

1. Don’t Fuck with Cats

This is one of the most disturbing documentaries you should check right now. It’s a story about Luke Magnotta, one of Canada’s worst murderers. This is an online manhunt for the investigation of animal cruelty created by him. Before he became a murderer, Luke was animal abuser and he has this viral video of kittens which he put in a bag and later on, suffocate them. Magnotta was later on convicted for murdering a Chinese student in grisly circumstances back in 2012.

2. American Murder: The Family Next Door

Directed by Jenny Popplewell, this story tells about Shannan Watts’ disappearance together with her two daughters only to find out that it was her husband who made the plot to kill them in the most heartbreaking way possible. This made headlines all around the world in 2018.

3. Abducted in Plain Sight

A crime documentary about the kidnapping of a girl committed by their family friend. This will trouble your mind thinking as it was really uncomfortable to watch, putting a lot of stones inside your trust zones. It is upsetting because there are works of abuse and it happened right before the eyes of the parents—to see is to believe. But how will you ever do that when it’s right in front of you?

4. Evil Genius

The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist is a Netflix true crime docuseries about the murder of Brian Wells, a high-profile 2003 incident often referred to as the “collar bomb” or “pizza bomber” case. The plot twists will get you hooked for its intriguing facts and scenes—making the police on the incompetent side. This is for the people who are very much into slow dark suspense type of crime.

5. Casting JonBenet

Casting Jon Benet sparked up a lot of theories and conspiracies to all its viewers as invested fans made up or came up to some ideas, was Jon Benet killed by a family member? Or was she Katy Perry of today?

Theories aside, this is about the unsolved mystery of JonBenet Ramsay with tons of participative supporting factors like interviews which will leave you gasping for more answers because there were no answers at all. It is an open-ended story providing viewers with possibilities only you can imagine.

6. Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel

This is a docu-series about the college student, Elisa Lam, who vanishes while leaving most of her stuff in a hotel room. This one provides scenes that shocked the internet world as there were clips from the elevator scenes which made this series trend on the day after its release. You mind will be fixed on some impressions as you start to watch, but perspectives will arise as soon as you get into the middle. It narrows down to police force miscommunications and an impossible number of synchronicities that make it easy to believe something paranormal has happened in a situation where mental health was left to run its course.
