Makoto Shinkai Is Back With New Feature ‘Suzume No Tojimari’

Director Makoto Shinkai is back with a new global hit for sure. Shinkai is the person behind all-time hits ‘Your Name’ and ‘Weathering With You’. The film ‘Suzume No Tojimari’, which roughly translates to Suzume’s Locking Up, is set to be released on Nov. 11 in Japan, but doesn’t have a release date globally just yet.

According to the movie’s plot summary, it follows 17-year-old Suzume who meets a young man looking for a door. When Suzume finds the mysterious door and opens it, doors all over Japan begin opening, unleashing all kinds of chaos and destruction around the country. It’s up to Suzume to close them once again.

Since the trailer is out, fans are crazy about what will be the turnout for this movie. The teaser for ‘Suzume no Tojimari’ is dialogue-free and relies instead on pure visuals to convey the first impression of the movie.

Fans know that Makoto Shinkai is one of the best storytellers with visually-compelling aesthetic to its movies. His movies will make you feel all the emotions left in your body as if your body is talking to you. This shocked every one else because his anime hits were really great in all terms—visuals, story, musical scoring, and script.

This first trailer doesn’t give much of the movie’s plot away, but it does looks absolutely gorgeous. The trailer includes images of ruined cities and the magical doors themselves. But, just like Shinkai’s previous two movies, everything seems a little bit tragic too.

His style and magic are one and the same—these type of movies with a touch of fantasy and reality combined is Shinkai’s signature in movies. And well all know that ‘Your Name’ and ‘Weathering With You’ met the commercial success all around the world.

If you want to dive into the magical impression of visuals and amazing storytelling of Shinkai, take a peak on his other masterpieces including ‘5 Centimeters Per Second’, ‘Voices of a Distant Star’, ‘She and Her Cat’, ‘The Place Promised in Our Early Days’, ‘The Garden of Words’, and ‘Children Who Chase Lost Voices’.
