A24 Is Set To Have A Bloody Prequel With This Year’s Slasher Movie ‘X’

A24 continues to make its name loud and proud with all sound on board as they come up with an X-traordinary origin story with the prequel film entitled “Pearl”.

ABOUT THE MOVIE

Pearl is a prequel to Ti West’s widely-praised horror film X, which premiered earlier this year. The new story will focus on the antagonist from the original film where we’ll get to learn more about Pearl’s origin story.

The brand-new prequel movie is set in 1918, decades prior to the 1970s-set ‘X’, which was released in theaters back in March of this year. Goth played the dual role of Pearl, a senior citizen, and Maxine, the film’s final girl. The film ends with Maxine killing Pearl, who along with her husband Howard had been brutally slaying Maxine’s friends throughout the movie.

The official trailer begins with Pearl taking care of her family at the same house of horrors seen in X, dreaming of becoming a Hollywood star. Yes, Pearl was much the same as Maxine when she was a young woman, with the trailer making it clear that she began killing long before Maxine and her friends showed up at their doorstep to make an indie porn movie in the ’70s.

Brutal kills? Pearl was no stranger to any of these things.

THE CAST

Mia Goth will be returning to reprise her role as Pearl in her youth. David Corenswet will take on the role of a younger version of Howard, her husband in the first film.

Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, and Emma Jenkins-Purro are also included in the cast list with unspecified roles.

Ti West wrote, directed, and produced Pearl. His co-producers are Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss, who all were producers for X as well.

Fun fact: A24 is teaming up with Little Lamb productions to produce and distribute Pearl.
