Balenciaga turned Paris Fashion Week into a mud bath, leaving viewers completely baffled. This luxury fashion house left many confused when models trudged through a grimy runway in a huge mud pit.
Some in the front row of the show even got mud splashed on their handbags and clothes as models trudged to the techno dystopian soundtrack. Like instead of the usual loud makeup done that is done in perfection, models spotted fake bruises and open wounds.
But to guess who opened the runway, it was no other than Kanye West. This was his first appearance as a catwalk model. He was wearing a black hoodie pulled over a baseball cap, as well as an oversized jacket and baggy leather jeans, not many noticed it was him.
The brains behind Balenciaga’s ‘The Mud Show’ is fashion designer and Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia. People in the fashion industry know that this fashion house is known for its eccentric concepts, but a lot of viewers couldn’t get their heads around the mud-filled exhibition.
Demna said in a statement that the unusual setting for this runway was a metaphor for digging the truth and being down to earth.
In a statement, he said:
“Individualism in fashion is downgraded to pseudo trends dictated by a post in stories of some celebrity of the moment, fashion in its best-case scenario should not need a story to be sold to someone, let us let everyone be anyone.”
“I’ve decided to no longer explain my collections and verbalize my designs, but to express a state of mind. Fashion is a visual art and all we need is for it to be seen through someone’s eyes. You either you like it or not.”
